wordpress-logoOh, so this is WordPress…

Yay, milestone. This is my first post on this, now the second generation of my website.

I have spent nearly half of my life exploiting the internet. Besides filling up nearly a terrabyte’s worth of Internet ‘crap,’ I have gained much knowledge from searching for different topics regarding web design and Flash animation.

It’s about time I started to keep an official weblog. Google has become huge, and I eventually wanted an advantage over the competition whenever someone googled, ‘ched graphic design.’ Hey, when everyone thinks they know design these days, every little thing counts.

I should have been all over this years ago. No one ever taught me how to market myself on the web. From all I knew, I had to have a sick-ass Flash website. I did, and I got a good job, but now I realise that I’m capable of much more.

Adventures in WordPress:

I’ve been dabbling in WordPress for a little while now, just a bit over three weeks. What I have found is that it is the cleanest, most intuitive way to manage a blog on the internet, while still supporting all the bells and whistles that I like to have. So, here is my interpretation of the weblog. You are viewing my theme, which reflects my clean white on white style, complete with a gigantic interactive Flash header serving as the main focus. It’s a configuration that I haven’t seen anywhere else. It essentially makes this website a true hybrid; utilizing Flash to display my portfolio shit, and XHTML, CSS, mySQL and PHP for the blog shit; all on one page. Until I find a way to incorporate WordPress into a full Flash website, it looks like I’ll be embedding the Flash into a traditional blog.

At this point, I guess the goal would be to generate enough traffic on this site to pay for the hosting costs. The ultimate goal would be to gain recognition in the web design industry and hopeully attain some big name clients. Nike? Coca-cola? Yeah, right. It seems pretty impossible, but I’m following this shit to the end.

A list of the plug-ins used on this site (yes, I know they should be linked. Google is fun though):

  • Kimili – The most full-featured flash embed code I could find. It allows for Flash to be embedded absolutely anywhere in a WordPress page.
  • Flashy Titles – This is sIFR translated for WordPress. It’s a very exciting time for typography on the Internet.
  • Lightbox – I love the cleanliness of this JavaScript plug-in. It gets used a lot on the Internet, but I don’t care, its slick as fuck.
  • Askimnet – Anti-spam plug-in that is packaged with WordPress.

So… until next time, if there is a next time…
