If there’s one thing that The Wire has taught me, it’s that if the drugs don’t destroy your life, the actual war on drugs will. Fun drug fact: 1 of every 100 adults in the U.S. is incarcerated. It’s also easier to obtain drugs than ever before. Fucked up, eh? This has essentially become a war on the underclass.
Norm Stamper is the former Seattle Police Chief. He served for 34 years, and has a Ph.D. in leadership and human behavior. As far as I know, this guy is the highest authority figure to ever speak out against prohibition. Not only does he describe the ‘more harm than good’ result of the current drug laws, he goes on to basically ask the question: Do we as consenting adults really own our bodies?

January 31, 2011 at 12:52 amA voice of reason! Thank you Dr. Stamper, please use your influence to keep this dialogue going. There is one thing that I dont quite agree with which is when he says it is the fault of the people. That is partially correct. IMHO it is the fault of most all of the cowardly politicians and the influence of the right wingers that automatically attach a stigma to innocent or recreational drug use is where the problem lies. As long as the notion to legalize or decriminalize pot is political suicide for politicians, nothing will change. Thank you again Dr. Stamper!!!!!!

June 12, 2009 at 12:58 pmI thank you Norm. Finally someone with some intelligence speaks up. That is what this war will take to end, the people. You hit it right on the head. This Generation needs to take a stand for what we truly believe in, and we need to stop letting our government run our laws. Our congressmen need to base our laws off of Facts and the people’s choice rather than Ideology, prejudice, and lies.
